Shall We Date? Arabian Nights — Ifrit Review

It has taken me a long time to complete this. I’ve been playing it for months. But every time, I’ve fallen asleep playing it. nervous I’ve had this problem with a couple of other games too… I’m still trying to make it through Kazuya in Demon’s Bond for the same reason. nervous

The basic plot of Arabian Nights is that the main character is a princess who wants to see the world before being tied down for marriage. One of her suitors turns out to be a magician and she sets off on a journey. Depending on which story you pick, you either follow a story that the magician is weaving or not. I did a review of Sindbad, who is one of the characters in the stories you can pick.

Ifrit is the magician storyteller in question, so you don’t actually go into an existing story. Instead, the story is told through a combination of what is happening currently, the bedtime story Ifrit tells you, and the prince in the dream world.

For me, the beginning is rather slow. It’s obvious who Ifrit is by the end of the first session in the dream world, so a lot of the plot was me waiting for the characters to catch up.

Once all of that is out of the way, however, things get interesting. It becomes fun seeing how Ifrit and the prince in the dream world differ and are the same. My only complaint is how it all plays out. I felt like even though the truth is obvious, it’s not obvious to the characters and sometimes I felt like the game wanted us to assume things that aren’t in line with the characters’ current knowledge. It’s hard to explain this without spoiling, but basically I felt like there were two different romance storylines going on for a chunk of the game because of this.

As far as endings go, I liked the Moonlight Night’s ending CG more, but I thought the Starlight Night’s ending was more romantic. I guess they’re both romantic, but hmm…. I just liked Starlight more! haha

Rating:

Honestly, I feel it’s more 2.5 but since I don’t do half hearts I’ll go ahead and bump it to three.

heart1heart1heart1

holllywhatMy heart scale is defined as follows – 5 hearts = a story everyone will fall in love with, regardless of preferences; 4 hearts = a well-done story that people who love the concept will adore, and people who don’t may end up liking it; 3 hearts = if you like this type of story or this type of hero, then you will enjoy this, but those who do not like either of those things will probably not; 2 hearts = it had potential, it squandered it; 1 heart = just a waste of time from the get-go; 0 hearts = why was this made?

Favorite Moments:

I liked how his face was covered most of the route. It made him more mysterious~ and the blushing sprite was even cuter!

This CG.

When I first saw this CG, I was holding my phone in my hand, so my thumb covered up her face. He is speaking, so the bottom half of the image was covered up. So I sat there going “What in the world is that blob?” //moves thumb to get better look//

“…it’s a titty.”

“…a big-ass titty.”

Then I promptly sent the CG to Strawbarely There and was basically “LOOK AT THIS GIRL’S TITS”

This later made this CG particularly hilarious to me.

We all know why you’re smiling, Ifrit. Look at that angle. Can you even see her face?

The backgrounds were particularly pretty this time around!

I really loved this character design. This character and Sindbad are some A++++ designs!

And I can’t sceenshot it, but I really loved the music in this game.
