Hello~
Welcome to Cute & Steamy Romance Reviews!
I feel like I’ve done this too many times.
And we have a new host now, so I’ve crossed over my posts from the last time we went down, but I’m still trying to get all the content back.
Things have changed a bit! I got rid of the Bad Romance section. But the red shirt is still here!
For new readers, any works getting a 2 or less heart review are categorized as Bad Romance.
This is the red shirt! The slogan for Bad Romance is not Rah Rah Oh Oh Oh Ma Ma Ooo La La GAGA want your bad romance but “Love is a battlefield, and these girls are wearing red shirts.”
The red shirt is reference to the Star Trek series, where the extras clad in red were the first to die. A bit of a nerdy joke, ehehehe!
I’m going to keep with the Let’s Plays and cover more novel reviews whenever possible. I love doing Let’s Play but they take at least a week to do. A chapter is roughly one hour. So I’m only going to try and do those once every two weeks.
You may notice there are ads now. That is to help pay for the content on the site. They are only on the side bar under the conetnt. I will never put intrusive ads on this site. I buy everything I review, and it’s to help with that. For the one year anniversary I am going to do several giveaways as well. Look forward to it!
I’ve started adding this note to my reviews:
My heart scale is defined as follows – 5 hearts = a story everyone will fall in love with, regardless of preferences; 4 hearts = a well-done story that people who love the concept will adore, and people who don’t may end up liking it; 3 hearts = if you like this type of story or this type of hero, then you will enjoy this, but those who do not like either of those things will probably not; 2 hearts = it had potential, it squandered it; 1 heart = just a waste of time from the get-go; 0 hearts = why was this made?
I want to explain them a little more.
Five hearts is a great story that everyone should read. I feel like it’s a story that has all the elements of a great story that work well together, along with some sort of unique twist or premise that sets it apart from the pack. I don’t give out five stars very often.
Four hearts is a great story and is well-crafted without any glaring flaws. The line between four and five stars lies in the uniqueness of the premise and/or twist. Four stars may not reinvent the wheel, but it’s a perfect execution of existing trends. If you like the trends in a four heart story, it may end up being a five heart in your opinion. If you don’t like the trends, it you still should give it a try because it’s a great representation of the trend.
Three hearts is not a bad review. I’m going to repeat it. Three hearts is not a bad review. Three hearts is average. If you like the blurb, like the premise, if it’s “your thing”, there’s a good chance you’ll like it. If it’s not your thing, you won’t.
Two and One hearts are almost like Four and Five hearts. The line something has to cross to be one is thin. Usually two hearts are good ideas executed horribly and one hearts are bad ideas from the get-go.
Zero hearts include anything offensive like racism or sexism, have plots that don’t make sense, or just plain poorly written books. If I read something and it angered me, or if I finish reading it and I feel like I wasted my time and money, I will give it zero hearts.
I hope this helps to clear up any misunderstandings.
