OZMAFIA!! Kyrie Review

So, in all the other characters I’ve played so far, Kyrie has been an absolute treasure. His snark is the saving grace of many a scene. I kinda want to save him for last. Savor him, if you will. Alas, I believe I’m going to save Caesar for last, because that very first image we have of him sticks in my head. It’s strikingly beautiful.

For my sanity, I had to completely disable the sound effects, which is what the jingle at the scene break is categorized under.

Kyrie proceeds exactly as you’d expect. A lot of teasing, some more maliciously tinged than others. You’re at the mercy of his flippant attitude and there’s few moments of sweetness. I enjoyed all of it. Part of liking Kyrie is liking that sadistic character of his, so if you don’t like sadistic-type characters (he’s honestly pretty mild compared to most out there) then you won’t enjoy his story. The constant scene breaks work a little better in this than the others, though it still breaks off at completely odd points. Would it kill this game to have one proper scene ending? It all feels unfinished. Like when I scribble down a scene idea and don’t go back to flesh it out, that’s this entire game.

The latter part of his route, when Caramia takes Fuka out on a date to show her how a relationship is supposed to be, rather bothered me. At that point, I feel like all the characters know how dumb excuse me, innocent, Fuka is. So Caramia doing that, even though he’s a little stupid himself, makes me feel like he’s taking advantage of Fuka. Of course with Caramia’s “lessons” she decides to become more assertive with Kyrie to get the affection she craves, which irks Kyrie and he starts a fight.

But if Kyrie knew all this was happening, and he knows her personality, he should have taken the chance to do his usual method of teaching (teasing her into obedience), not blow up at her like a petulant brat. Then, of course, the conflict ends up being jealousy. Ugh. The main problem with this is that it’s not like Caramia at all. This comes out of left field. One day he just loves her, for no reason? In his route there’s reasons, it makes sense. In Kyrie’s, they don’t spend much time together at all outside the group outings because she spends her spare time with Kyrie. So Caramia, who is portrayed as a noble man with a heart of gold up to this point, decides to steal his closest friend’s woman away?

He even pulls a gun on Kyrie. Kyrie maneuvers out of it, shooting a hole in the wall in the process, and puts a gun to Caramia’s head.

And AT THE MOMENT OF HIGHEST TENSION, FREAKING FADE TO BLACK

arghhmadmad

But still, can you honestly imagine Caramia doing that? Because I can’t. Kyrie is practically walking conflict, we don’t need character assassination to augment conflict in a relationship.

Kyrie doesn’t hold any of it against both Caramia and Fuka in the end. And then it’s like nothing happened. She chooses Kyrie, he warns her he’s not going to ever change, and things are back to normal. We all knew that Kyrie wouldn’t change. Caramia tells her that he’ll give Kyrie a good whop in the head if he’s mean to  her again.

Later, Dorian Gray flirts with Fuka and Kyrie is jealous, so he kisses her. I am really disappointed this is how they end up sharing their first kiss. Ugh~~~~~~ where is the romance in that? When they consummate their relationship it’s also not romantic at all. Or even steamy in his sadistic way. It’s just droll and boring.

Anyway, Caesar comes back for the final conflict, but it’s not really noteworthy. The final ending scene was cute, though, so I’ll give it that.

The second ending…. holy what in the WHAT. I don’t even know what to say about it. Just, WHAT IN THE FLYING WHAT IN THE HELL HAPPENED HERE!? And like Caramia’s second ending, his personality change is permanent. It’s truly off-putting reading these endings. Add that to the WHAT IN THE HELL JUST HAPPENED HERE scene, seriously, kudos to Okitsu Kazuyuki because that was such an intense scene and I had to hurry-click through the dialogue because I couldn’t bear to hear it.

The first love triangle ending, I suppose, was supposed to be more on the steamy side because they consummate their relationship rather quickly. I know they did in the main route too, but it feels like they did it faster and more often in this one. But — but — Kyrie being Kyrie is in those scenes oohhhh myyyyy~

There’s just something odd about Kyrie stealing her away. Kyrie is a snarky bastard, but he’s still not one to do his friends dirty like that. But Caramia doesn’t seem to really mind, and accepts it later, so I guess that’s good. It’s just weird that she didn’t cleanly break up with Caramia, then she’s with Kyrie like it was nothing. In this, she wishes for the families to fight less, so Kyrie sets up a Rudeberg machine-esque plan to achieve her wish. It was really interesting seeing the conversation between him and Dorian Gray. That’s the sort of conversations I love to see. There’s a slight shifting of power between the two as they battle it out with their wits… simply masterful scene between two intriguing characters. Hamelin makes an appearance by technicality. His flute controls Caramia and Caramia attacks Kyrie. But they’re  both immortal and we know that, so that makes their fight less intense. In the end, they injure each other and Fuka, but all three wake up in the hospital, perfectly fine. This is sad to say, but I almost feel like these scenes were better than the ones in his true romance option.

The second alternate ending is better. Kyrie is utterly badass and he gets to show off his magical powers. I liked it a lot. Plus it ends with bantering between Kyrie and Caramia, which I do enjoy a lot.

So, for ending ranks, Transferred Ending2=TE1>True Love1>TL2

Final Thoughts

He starts off strong. It falls apart in the end. With these types of routes, there is usually a conflict that makes them change from their normal snarky self to something more serious. I’m not fond of the conflict used here. But taking into account each individual moment, he has a lot of good ones. It’s rather odd to say, but the sum of the parts isn’t great, even though a lot of the parts are great.

However, on the transferred endings, I feel like he stays more true to his character. Even though I’m not happy about how Fuka ended her relationship with Caramia, I still ended up enjoying the plot more in the transferred option.

Favorite Moments

It’s a little hard capping moments in his route. While he pulls off fantastic one liners in other stories, in his own you really need the benefit of reading the entire conversation. That said, I did try to get a lot of his good lines. And good god, I screencapped  A TON. 32 images in fact… twice the amount of all the others.

Oooh my. I would like you guys to know that he’s not quite as harsh in the following lines. But I am also a masochist at heart. nervous

I don’t remember why I capped this. But it’s making me laugh all the same. That dejected look on Scar-scar’s face, the smug sort of laugh he’s doing… He’s such a douche like that, it’s why he’s so lovable. He’s our lovable jerk, okay?

This may be obvious, but Kyrie’s kindness is like making a wish with a Djinn. There’s always a catch.

Now, now, we’re not at the point where punishments are that. winkheart2

He teases you a lot like this. But there’s never a point where it feels mean spirited. More like, he goads you to say you love him by saying that, which gives him an opportunity to tease you by saying you’re the one that fell for a person like him. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like their weird way of doing the “I love you.” “I love you more.” “No I love you more” thing.

He doesn’t like to get his hands dirty, but when he does… but that’s not what this scene is about.

Ah yes, the “teacher” scene that allows an amount of physical contact with a totally innocent context. Classic situation.

And I love your mean words I’m such a horrible person I should be mad but I’m not!

Just in case you thought he never said anything sweet.

There is a moment when you realize a character is perfection incarnate. This is the moment.
I am aware 90% of these moments involve a character preparing the heroine tea, speaking of the art of it and the special aromas and flavors.
WHERE IS THE LIE THO
Such a man after my own heart
Really tho that’s how much I love tea

He does have some self awareness, which goes a long way in these character archetypes.

WHERE IS THE LIE THO

This entire scene was gold. And Caramia’s face. LOL

But this kiss scene…. arghh

His love for Fuka changes him and I love to see that.

This line almost makes me want to do his story next. >>;

So uhh… how do you push someone elegantly?

WHERE IS THE LIE THO Marvelle you can’t use that when you have nothing witty to say DON’T TELL ME HOW TO REVIEW

This line. This line is pure, absolute, GOLD, Jerry! TWENTY FOUR KARATS OF GOLD.

This doesn’t even do it justice. The way it’s said, the escalating fury, the classy refined speech, the way it ends in Japanglish SUPER FANTASTICO HENTAI

SUPER FANTASTICO HENTAI

HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

Oh, the delivery on that line is worth the price of the game alone.

Even just looking at this… man, that scene was rough.

I still haven’t found out who that past person was (okay, it’s obviously Dorothy, but is Fuka Dorothy? Okay that seems obvious too. I JUST WANT CONFIRMATION)

This is the only time a blushing sprite has ever made my skin crawl. Ugh, this is not Kyrie at all.

Well, he does have a point, but I hate this whole “stealing” thing. I really would have preferred a breakup, but I guess it’s to make the reader feel like two guys were fighting over her… except they weren’t, really.

He tells this great story about his past and how his eyes change color with his mood BUT THE EYE THAT DOES IS THE ONE THAT’S COVERED UP SO WHAT IS THE FREAKING POINT

….W-Where was that image again??

that sound you hear is the fingers typing furiously ferocious amounts of fanfiction of the lemon-scented variety and I will read them all with much gusto!

Essence is exactly what you think it is. But seriously, I can’t be the only one that falls asleep

That is a cute and totally Kyrie=like way to say he loves her hahaha

CONFESSION TIME: his dark hair kinda makes him look like an unfashionable rock star 🙁 but CONFESSION TIME: I still like it >>;;

S-so cool tumblr_inline_n2pijye4Nv1qdlkyg

And with that, we’ll end this on a sweet note. winkheart4

But seriously tho, where’s the fanfiction at

I’ll write it if I have to

  1. I especially like the way he seduces Fuka (while she is in realtionship with Axel, I AM SO SORRY AXEL HON) That scene was amazing and hot ;D

  2. It so was. I hate that we came about it so… cruelly, but that was such a great steamy scene. xD
